1 Kings12:25
25 ¶ Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel .
i. e. He repaired, and enlarged, and fortified it; for it had been ruined long since; Iudg. 9. 45. He might chuse it as a place both auspicious, because here the Foundation of his Monarchy was laid; and commodious, as being near the Frontiers of his Kingdom.
A place beyond Jordan; of which, see Gen. 32. 30. Iudg. 8. 17. to secure that part of his Dominions.
