2 Corinthians9:6

6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly, shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully, shall reap also bountifully .

Whereas covetous persons think all lost which they give to charitable uses, the Apostle correcteth their mistake, by letting them know, that it is no more lost, than the seed is which the Husbandman casteth into his ground, which bringeth forth thirty, sixty, or sometimes an hundred-[illegible: 1 letter]old; though with this difference, that whereas the Husbandmans Crop dependeth upon the goodness and preparedness of his ground, it is not so with this spiritual Crop; a man shall not reap according to the nature of the Soil in which he casts his seed; for he that giveth to a Prophet, or to a righteous man, in the name of a Prophet, or a righteous man, (though he may be mistaken in the person to whom he so giveth) yet shall he receive the reward of a Prophet, and of a righteous man: But this spiritual Sower shall receive, according to the quantity of seed which he soweth. He that soweth niggardly and sparingly, shall reap accordingly; he which soweth liberally, shall reap liberally: From whence we may be confirmed, that the rewards of another life will not be equal, but bear some proportion to the good works which men have done here.
