2 Samuel7:8

8 Now therefore, so shalt thou say unto my servant David : Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheep-coat, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel .

Lest David should be too much discouraged, or judge himself neglected and forsaken of God, as one thought unworthy of so great an honour, God here gives him the honourable title of his Servant, thereby signifying that he accepted of his service, and of his good intentions, which also was expressed at this time, as it may seem from 1 King. 8. 18. though not in this place.

I advanced thee, and I do not repent of it.
