Acts23:9
9 And there arose a great cry: And the scribes that were of the Pharisees part arose, and strove, saying , We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not sight against God.
Scribe is a Name denoting an Office or Place; and the Scribes were men skilled in the Law.
Some take the latter to be Exegetical of the former; and that by a Spirit is only meant an Angel, by such Messengers God many times sending his Messages to the children of men: Yet others by the Spirit understand Prophetical Revelation, and the Spirit of Prophecy, which was expected to be shed abroad in large measures about that time; as appears, Iohn 7.39.
