Daniel8:24
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power : and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people .
Not by any Heroick Deeds, or truly Regal Qualities, but by making use of the Jewish Factions, and also through the Divine permission, and commission given him to punish a backsliding degenerate Nation; lastly by the help of Eumenes and Attal[illegible: 1 letter]s by whose means and help he got up to this height, who being Kings, suspected the Roman Power and raised him to be a kind of check to them.
He shall by force, craft, and cruelty destroy many of Gods people, from the highest, to the meanest Ranks of them.
