Exodus34:9

9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O LORD, let my LORD, I pray thee, go amongst us, (for it is a stiff-necked people ,) and pardon our iniquity, and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance .

And therefore need thy glorious and powerful presence to rule them. Or rather, though it be a stiff-necked people, as thou saist, yet forsake them not. The Hebrew particle, chi, oft signifies though, as Exod. 5. 11. Isa. 54. 6.

(i. e.) Deal with us as men do with their inheritances, dwell among us, protect us, improve us.
