Genesis17:5
5. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham : for a father of many nations have I made thee.
(i. e.) The Father of a multitude, Ham in the Hebrew being put for Hamon, which signifies a multitude, by a figure called Apocope, which is usual in proper names.
