Jeremiah31:18

18 I have surely h[illegible: 1 letter]ard [illegible: 1 letter]phraim bemoa[illegible: 1 letter]ing himself thus, Thou [illegible: 1 letter]ast [illegible: 1 word] me and I was chastised as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned , for thou art the LORD my God.

The Prophet in this verse sheweth the change that should be wrought in the hearts of the Israelites preceding this turn out of their Captivity. God had made an ancient promise to this people in their Enemies hands. [illegible: 1 word]. 26.40 41. I[illegible: 1 letter] t[illegible: 1 letter]ey shall co[illegible: 2 letters]ss their Iniquity, and the [illegible: 1 span], with their trespass which th[illegible: 1 letter]y [illegible: 1 span] me▪ and that they [illegible: 1 word] have walked contrary unto me: 41. A[illegible: 1 letter]d that [illegible: 1 word] I [illegible: 1 word] wa[illegible: 1 letter]ked c[illegible: 2 letters] trary unto them, and [illegible: 1 letter]ave broug[illegible: 1 letter]t them i[illegible: 1 letter]to t[illegible: 1 letter]e land of t[illegible: 2 letters]ir En[illegible: 1 letter]mi[illegible: 1 letter]s; i[illegible: 1 letter] th[illegible: 1 letter]n their [illegible: 1 span] be [illegible: 1 word], and [illegible: 1 span] o[illegible: 1 letter] the p[illegible: 1 letter]ni[illegible: 1 letter]hme[illegible: 1 letter]t of their Iniq[illegible: 2 letters]ty. 42. T[illegible: 1 letter]en will I [illegible: 1 span] Cov[illegible: 2 letters]ant with Ia[illegible: 2 letters]b, and also my Covenant with [illegible: 1 word], and a[illegible: 1 letter]so [illegible: 1 word] Covenant with Abraham, will I remember, and I will [illegible: 1 span]. The Lord to sh[illegible: 1 letter]w his faithfulness to his word, and also to mind them of what must first be done before the aforementioned promises could be fulfilled, and made good to them, and to quicken them to their duty, speaks of a thing yet to come as of a thing past foretelling that before their deliverance should come he should hear Ephraim, that is, the ten Tribes, or rather, those of all the twelve tribes that feared the Lord.

Bemoaning[illegible: 1 letter] or bewailing their miserable state or themselves both for that and their sins which ha[illegible: 1 letter] brought them into such a state and

acknowledging not only what God had done unto them that it was he who had chastised them▪ and that justly, For,

They were as wanton Bullocks not used to the yoke, which ordinarily are very unruly when they are first put into it, but b[illegible: 1 letter] use are more quiet under it

And praying to God, that he would both cha[illegible: 1 letter]ge their hearts, and also their state; for without him it could never be done, and by him it would be done easily.

And to this purpose laying a claim to God as their God, and owning him as their God, promising him that though other Lords had ruled over them, yet hereafter he alone should be owned, acknowledged, worshipped, and obeyed by them.
