Jeremiah47:5
5 Baldness is come upon Gaza, Askelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley : how long wilt thou cut thy self ?
[illegible: 1 word] Gaza and [illegible: 1 word] were two principal Cities belonging to the P[illegible: 1 letter]ilistines taken by I[illegible: 1 letter]dah, Iud. 1.18. we read of them 1 S[illegible: 1 letter]m. 6.17 both A[illegible: 2 letters]s. Z[illegible: 1 letter]phan[illegible: 1 letter]ah, and [illegible: 1 word] prophes[illegible: 1 letter]ed their ruine. Am[illegible: 1 letter]s 1.8. Z[illegible: 3 letters]ani[illegible: 2 letters] 2.4, 7 [illegible: 1 span] as this Prophet, by the remna[illegible: 1 letter]t of the valley, most [illegible: 1 word] those who lived in the Vallies near about Askelon.
Conce[illegible: 2 letters]ing the last clause in this ver[illegible: 1 letter]e there is some difference, whe[illegible: 1 letter] or the words should be joined w[illegible: 1 letter]th the next verse▪ and read [illegible: 1 span] too [illegible: 1 word] thy self, O thou Sword of the Lord (or as they lye in our Bi[illegible: 1 letter]les) then the sense is, why will you in so desperate a case afflict your selves, when all your mourning will do you no good.
