Matthew Poole and continuators on Jeremiah 51:24

24 And I will render unto Babylon, and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea, all their evil that they have done in Zion, in your sight, faith the LORD .

The particle in the front of this verse which our Translators (understanding the four former verses of Cyrus) render and in a copulative sense, must be rendred now or but, i[illegible: 1 letter] the four former verses be understood of Babylon, and the sense is this. Though I have hitherto made use of Babylon, and shall yet for a time make use of the Chaldeans and Babylonians t[illegible: 1 letter] destroy several other nations, yet now the time is come▪ that I will punish them, and recompence to them all the mischeif they have done to the Jews and some of the Jews shall live to see it.
