Joshua5:12

12 And the Manna ceased on the morrow after they had [illegible: 1+ letters]aten of the old corn of the land, neither had the children of Israel Manna any more, but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Which God now withheld, 1. To shew that Manna was not an ordinary production of Nature, as by the long and constant enjoyment of it, they might be prone to think; but an extraordinary and special gift of God to supply their necessity. 2. Because God would not be prodigal of his favours, nor expose them to contempt by giving them superstuously, or by working Miracles where ordinary means were sufficient.

i. e. On the seventeenth day.
