Luke1:48

48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Our translators have here rightly translated [non-Latin text not transcribed]. Low estate. Mary doubtless doth not here commend her own Humility, (as some Pap[illegible: 1 letter]sts would have it,) but magnifieth God, for that he had respect to her, who was of so mean and low a condition, for tho she was of the family of David, yet that Family had for many years been broken and afflicted, and she was now espoused to a Carpenter, which spake her condition low and mean, tho descended from the Royal Family of David, and thus God usually magnifieth himself, he chuseth David from the Sheepfold to be King over Israel, he much delighteth to exalt such as are low, he chooseth the foolish things of the World, to confound the Wise, the weak things of the World to confound the mighty, and base things of the World, and things which are despised, hath God chosen 1 Cor. 1, 28. That no flesh should Glory in his presence, v. 29. Henceforth (saith Mary) all generations shall call me Blessed. It is no mean favour of God, when God giveth us a name in the World, and that not only in the present generation but in succeding Generations.
