Luke1:76

76 And thou child shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways.

Zacharias here foretelleth what came to pass, about thirty years after (for it cannot be thought that Iohn began his Ministry, before the Sacerdotal age, especially considering Christ did not begin sooner Chap. 3.23. Thou shalt be called a Prophet ▪ that may either signify, thou shalt be a Prophet, as Matth. 5.9. Iohn 1.12. or thou shalt be owned, or taken notice of▪ as the Prophet of the Highest. Both were true in Iohn. He was a Prophet (tho not that Prophet, Iohn 1.21.) yea and more then a Prophet, saith our Saviour Matth. 11.9, And thou shalt go before his face to prepare his ways. This was according to the Prophecy, Isa. 40.3. Mal. 4.5. and according to what Ioh[illegible: 1 letter] said of himself, Matth. 3.3. Mark 1.3. See the Notes on [illegible: 1 word] 3.3.
