34 And we cast the lots amongst the priests, the Levites, and the people , for the wood-offering , to bring it into the house of our God , after the houses of our fathers , at times appointed, year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law.

To determine the time and order in which each of them should take the care of the business.

For the wood which was to be spent in great quantity being used in every Sacrifice, and formerly had been supplied out of the Temples, treasures or by the King; which could not now be done.

i. e. Into the place appointed to receive it in the buildings adjoyning or belonging to the Temple.

i. e. According to our several families which were to take the charge of it by course.
