Romans10:21

21. But to Israel he saith , All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people .

viz. in Isa. 65.2. In the former verse there is a consolatory Prophesy foretelling the vocation of ignorant and prophane Gentiles; and in this, there is a menacing Prophecy, threatning the rejecting of the rebellious and stubborn Iewes.

From the time of their first calling, to their dissipation.

As a Father holds forth his Armes to receive a rebellious Son. Compare this with Mat. 23.37.

The Prophet Isajah hath but one word Rebellious, and the Apostle renders it, by these two words disobedience and gainsaying: They were disobedient in heart, and gainsaying, with their Tongues, contrary to these two gracious qualifications mentioned, v. 9.10. Belief in the heart, and the confession of the mouth. Compare this with Act. 7.51, 52. and 13.45. and 19.9.
