1. The afflictions of the righteous may be long continued though severe. "I am afflicted, etc., from my youth up."
2. Severe though long continued.
(a) Painful, —"afflicted."
(b) Threatening, —"ready to die."
(c) Terrific, —"suffer thy terrors."
