Ecclesiastes10:4

Verſ. 4. If the ſpirit of thy Ruler riſe up, &c. leave not thy place] Thine office,Ne [non-Latin text not transcribed] andiat. Horat. duty, and obedience: A metaphor from military matters. A ſouldier muſt not ſtart from his ſtation, but keep to the place aſſigned him by his Captain: So here, Perdidit arma, locum virtutis deſeruit, &c.

Others render it, do not perſiſt in thy place, do not ſtand to affront anger; but go aſide a little out of ſight, as Jonathan, when his Father had thrown a javeling at him, went forth a ſhooting. See the Note on Chap. 8.3. and on Prov. 15.1.

For yeelding pacifieth great offences] Thus by yeelding, David pacified Saul, Abigail, David. See Prov. 25.15. with the Note. Salve the wound, and ſave thy ſelf. The weak Reed, by bending in a rough wind, receiveth no hurt, when the ſturdy Oak is turned up by the roots.
