Ezekiel1:23-24
Ver. 23. Were their wings ſtrait] ſc. When they flew; for at other times they covered their bodies with them, ver. 11, in reverence to Chriſt, their Creatour, and Lord.
The one toward the other] They ſerve the Lord Chriſt with one ſhoulder or conſent, they do all mind the ſame thing.
Congeries ſimilium faciens ad amplificat.Ver. 24. And when they went, I heard a noiſe of their wings] A very great noiſe, as is here ſet forth by a threefold ſimilitude,
Like the noiſe of great waters] Which fall with an horrible fragor, as with the Catadupes for inſtance: See Pſal. 46.3.
As the noiſe of the Almighty] i. e. As thunder, Pſal. 29 4. & 18.13.
The voice of ſpeech] When a man cryeth aloud, lifteth up his voice like a trumpet, ſic clamans ut Stentora vincat.
As the noiſe of an hoſt] Barritus ille militaris, beſides the roaring of Cannons, rattling of wheels, beating of drums, &c. This none heare, but the ſpiritual man, who diſcerneth all things, 1 Cor. 2.15. and hath his ſenſes habitually exerciſed to diſcern good and evil, Heb. 5. ult.
They let down their wings] As expecting a new commiſſion.
