Ezekiel16:30
Ver. 30. How weak is thine heart] Weak as water, melted in ſpiritual luſt, putrifying alive, and periſhing dayly,Sueton. as Tiberius ſaid he perceived himſelf to do at Capreae. This is here uttered by way of admiration, and the word rendred Heart being otherwhere of the Maſculine gender, is here made feminine; to ſhew how idolaters are effeminated to a baſe and ſenſual eſteem of God and his ſervice.
The work of an imperious whoriſh woman] Of a ſtrong whore; weak to do good,Pervicaciſſima & procaciſſimae. Ʋne paillarde robuſte. French. but ſtrong to do evil: ſo are all idolaters with their hippomanes & cacoethes. The word rendred imperious ſignifieth a Sultaneſſe or Queen; who, if withal a quean, what will ſhe not dare to do? See it in that whore of Babylon who ſitteth as a Queen, &c. The unbridled boiſterouſneſſe of idolaters, ſee Jer. 44.16, 17.
