John Trapp on Hebrews 12:15

Verſe 15. Lest any man fail] Or, Fall ſhort, as Chap. 4.1. See the Note there. Short ſhooting loſeth many a game: he that in a race lieth down ere he come to the goal, gets not the garland. Pe[illegible: 2 letters]everance crowns all our vertues. But its an eaſie thing to fall a napping with the fooliſh virgins (yea the wiſe alſo ſlumbered) which will prove to our coſt, when God ſhall ſend forth ſummons for ſleepers.

Lest any root of bitterneſſe] Any ſcandalous ſin to the corrupting of others, and the corroding of our own conſeiences: and out of which we recover not without much adoe, till we have felt what an evil and a bitter thing [illegible: 1 letter]inne is, as David did, Pſal. 51.
