Isaiah61:11
Ver. 11. For as the earth bringeth forth her bud] Hic rurſum loquitur Chriſtus, ſaith Piſcator, here Chriſt ſpeaketh again, giving us to underſtand that piety is planted by God in the hearts of his people. We are Gods husbandry, ſaith the Apoſtle, See Mark. 3.26, 27, 28. The Church is Chriſts garden, Cant. 5.1. Howbeit it is with holy affections, as with exotique noble plants: this Countrey is not ſo kindly for them, being but a ſtepmother to them; therefore muſt they be much watered and cheriſhed, &c. We have a gracious Promiſe that our hearts ſhall be like watered gardens, chap. 58.11. and that if we quench not the Spirit, but quicken and cheriſh it, there ſhall flow out of our belly, that is, out of the boſom and bottom of our ſouls ſhall flow rivers of living water, Joh. 7.38. better than thoſe that watred the garden of Eden; ſo that we ſhall be filled with the fruits of righteouſneſs which are by Jeſus Chriſt unto the glory and praiſe of God, Philip. 1.11.
