Ver. 26. Gird thee with ſack cloth, Liv. lib. 3. and wallow thy ſelf in aſhes] The very heathens did ſo when in danger of a mercileſs enemy: veniam irarum caeleſtium poſcentes, ſaith Livy, ſeeking the pardon of their ſins, and the favour of their Gods.
