Job24:7
Verſe 7. They cauſe the naked to lodge without clothing] viz. By denying and detaining from them that they have earned, wherewith they ſhould provide them garments, which are ſo called, quaſi gardments: becauſe they ſerve to guard mens bodies from the injury of the weather. They cauſe them to lodge naked, becauſe they have no clothing; ſo ſome reade the text, they lay them open to the pinching cold of the night. And what a miſery it is to lye a cold and wet, and not to have wherewith to keep us warm and dry, in winter ſeaſon eſpecially, who knows not? Hîc diſce Deo gratus eſſe, ſaith Lavater. Here then learn thankfulneſs to God, thou that haſt not only a warm and wholeſome lodging-room, but alſo good ſtore of bed-cloaths; and thoſe of the better ſort too. Abuſe not theſe bleſſings to pride and luxury, leſt God turn in upon thee ſpoylers and plunderers, who may leave thee little enough; leave thee nuaum tanquam ex mari, as they did many in theſe late ſhredding and ſtripping times, Ezek. 25.4. God threatneth to ſend the men of the Eaſt to dwell (as ſo many Lord-Danes) in their Palaces, and to eate their milk, &c. When the Children play with their meat, and caſt it to the Dogs, what can the Father do leſs, than bid, Take away?
