Job27:7

Verſe 7 Let mine enemy be as the wicked] q d. I need wiſh my greateſt enemy no greater hurt, then to be as the wicked, for then he is ſure to be wretched. So far am I from ſaying, that God favoureth the wicked, or that he alwayes ſuffereth them to eſcape unpuniſhed.

And he that riſeth up againſt me, as the unrighteous] Or, froward and perverſe. This is the ſame again in other words: and it is well noted to be a popular manner of ſpeaking, wherein when men expreſſe an abomination of a thing, they wiſh it so their enemies; taking it for granted, that the power of malice is ſo great, that no man can expreſſe it in the wiſh of any particular evil. See the like phraſe, 2 Sam. 8 32 1 Sam 25.26. Dan. 4.29.
