Job33:14

Verſe 14. For God ſpeaketh once, yea twice] He loveth to fore ſignifie: and although not bound to it, yet he uſually gives warning; as not willing that any ſhould periſh, but that all ſhould come to repentance, 2 Pet. 3.9 For which purpoſe, God, ſaith Elihu here, uſeth two wayes to nurture his Children; the one more milde, to keep them from falling into ſin, verſe 15.16, 17, 18. the other more rigorous, when they have committed wickedneſs, to bring them to amendment of life, verſe 19, 20, 21, &c.

Yet man perceiveth it not] Pra craſſitis, & ſupinitate (ut ita dicam) ſua; through his forlorn dulneſs and heedleſneſs, his ſingular oſcitancy and inadvertency. Though God ſay as once, O generation, ſee ye the Word of the Lord, Jer. 2.31. Hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it, Mic. 6.9. yet man is not only naturally averſe, but adverſe, to liſten, or lay to heart any thing, till it light on his hide, to believe till he feeleth, yea, to his natural dulneſs, he ſoon addeth an habitual hardneſs to his ſinewes of iron, brows of braſs, Iſai. 48.4. this is fearful, Act. 28.27. and yet common to all, whoſe hard hearts God is not pleaſed to ſoften with the oyle of his Grace, and to ſoak in the blood of his Son, that they may be ſupple and ſoluble.
