Job36:16

Verſe 16. Even ſo would he have removed thee, &c.] The ſin revocat ad hypotheſin; Here Elihu applyeth to Job that which he had more generally diſcourſed concerning godly mens afflictions turned to their greateſt good, if they be careful to improve the ſame. Heb. He would have perſwaded, or gently removed thee.

Out of the ſtrait, &c.] Heb. Out of the mouth of the ſtrait. A Metaphor from wild beaſts, that hold ſome prey in the mouth, ſaith Piſcator. Or from a pit, narrow at the top, and wide at the bottom, as R. Solomon, and ſome others, who underſtand it of hell. Brentius to the ſame ſenſe rendreth the Text thus, Eripiet te ab ore anguſtiae lato, ſub quo nullum eſt fundamentum, He ſhall deliver thee from the broad mouth of ſtraitneſs, under which there is no bottom.

And that which ſhould be ſet on the table, &c.] Thou ſhouldſt eat of the fat, and drink of the ſweet, thou ſhouldſt have knowne no want of any thing, if thou hadſt not been wanting to thy ſelfe, in making the beſt uſe of thy troubles. See Pſal. 23.5.
