Verſe 17. Therefore doth my Father love me, becauſe] This becauſe, is nota conſecutionis, non cauſae, ſaith Beza.

I lay down my life] I do it even now: for he ſuffered many a little death all his life ſong, and at length the curſed death of the croſſe.

That I might take it again] For Chriſt being life eſſentiall, ſwallowed up death in victory, as the fire ſwallows up the fuell, as Moſes his ſerpent ſwallowed up the ſorcerers ſerpents, &c.
