Matthew11:16
Verse 16. But whereunto shall I liken this generation?] So great was the contumacy and obstinacy of this perverse people, the Pharisees especially, that the wisdom of God seems to be at a want for a fit word to utter to them, for their better conviction. And do not some such sit before us at this day, as sencelesse every whit of what is said to them, as the seats they sit on, the pillars they lean to, the dead bodies they tread upon? We may speak to them, alas, till we spet out our lungs, and all to as little purpose, as Bede did, when he preached to an heap of stones.
