Matthew27:8
Verse 8. Was called the field of bloud] Not the buriall-place for strangers, as they would have had it called (thinking thereby to have gotten [illegible: 1 word] an eternall commendation, for their love and liberality to strangers) but the field of bloud (so the Vulgar would needs call it, much against these Masters mindes) for a lasting monument of their detestable [illegible: 1 word], which they thought to have carried so cleanly, that the world should have [illegible: 1 word] never the wiser; and therefore they would not [illegible: 1 word] Christ themselves, as they did Steven; but, to decline the envy, delivered him up [illegible: 1 word] Pilate to be put to death. It is hard if hypocrites be not, by one means or other, detected: how else should their names rot?
