Proverbs17:11
Verſ. 11. An evil man ſeeketh onely rebellion] viz. How to gain-ſtand and miſchieve thoſe that by words or ſtripes, ſeek to reclaim him: Some read it thus, The rebellious ſeeketh miſchief only, hee is ſet upon ſin, hee ſhall bee ſure of puniſhment. No warnings will ſerve obdurate hearts; wicked men are even ambitious of deſtruction: Judgements need not go to finde them out, they run to meet their bane, they ſeek it, and as it were ſend for it. But this they need not do, for a cruel meſſenger ſhall bee ſent againſt him. God hath forces enough at hand to fetch in his Rebels, viz. good and evil Angels, Stars, Meteors, Elements, other creatures, reaſonable, unreaſonable, inſenſible. The ſtones in the wall of Aphek ſhall ſooner turn Executioners than a rebellious Aramite ſhall ſcape unrevenged; Not to ſpeak of Hell-torments prepared for the Devil and his Angels, and by them to bee inflicted on Rebels and Reprobates.
