Proverbs17:9
Verſ. 9. Hee that covereth a tranſgreſſion, ſeeketh love] In friendſhip faults will fall out: Theſe muſt bee many of them diſſembled, and not chewed, but ſwallowed down whole, as Phyſick-pills; for elſe they will ſtick in a mans teeth, and prove very unpleaſant. See the Note on Prov. 10.12.
But hee that repeateth a matter, ſeparateth very friends] Hee that is ſo ſoft and ſenſible of ſmalleſt offences, ſo tender and tickliſh that hee can put up nothing without revenge, or reparation: Hee that rips up and rakes into his friends frailties, and makes them more in the relating, having never done with them, hee ſhall ſoon make his beſt friends weary of him, nay, to become enemies to him.
