Proverbs19:20

Verſ. 20. Hear counſel, and receive inſtruction] Or, correction. Here hee directs his ſpeech to the younger ſort, and exhorts them, 1 To hear counſel, that is, to keep the Commandement, as verſ. 16. 2 To receive correction of Parents, as verſ. 18. as the onely way to ſound and laſting wiſdome: For Vexatio dat intellectum; Piſcator ictus ſapit; Quae nocent docent, &c. Or Salomon may here bring in the Father thus leſſoning his untoward childe, whom hee hath laſhed. For to correct, and not inſtruct, is to ſnuff the Lamp, but not poure in oyl to feed it.
