Proverbs20:24

Verſ. 24. Mans goings are of the Lord] See the Notes on Chap. 16.1, 9. God brought Paul to Rome by a way that hee little dreamed of. Auſtin once travelling loſt his way, Aug. in Enchirid. ad Laurent. cap. 17. and fetching a compaſs came ſafe to the place hee intended; whereas had hee kept the right way, hee had been caught by an armed band of the Donatiſts that lay in wait for him. The ſteps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, Pſal. 37.23. and hee findes himſelf ſometimes croſſed with a bleſſing: As when Iſabel Queen of England was to repaſs from Zeland into this Kingdome with an Army, in favour of her ſon againſt her husband, ſhee had utterly been caſt away, had ſhee come to the port intended, being there expected by her enemies; but Providence (againſt her will) brought her to another place where ſhee ſafely landed. Good therefore, and worthy of all acceptation is the Wiſe-mans counſel, In all thy wayes acknowledge GOD, and hee ſhall direct thy path, Prov. 3.6. See the Note there.
