John Trapp on Psalms 78:41

Verſ. 41. Yea they turned back and tempted God] They did it afreſh, and after ſome reſolutions and ſhort-winded wiſhes of doing better.

And limited the holy one] Deſignarunt, they preſcribed to him, and ſet him his bounds which he muſt not paſs; as Popilius the Roman Embaſſadour drew a Circle round about King Antiochus, and bade him give anſwer ere he ſtirred out of it, for he would be put off no longer. Now God is limited, when as either his power is queſtioned, as verſ. 20. or his will circumſcribed, as if he were bound to ſerve mens luſts, or means appointed him whereby hee muſt work, and not otherwiſe.
